Nigerians have protested against police brutality before, and this is not the first time they have done so. The young people of Nigeria are also upset about the possibility of harassment if they are caught in some states carrying a laptop.
Well, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, on Wednesday, said the Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship Council chaired by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), would minimise the harassment of youths carrying laptops by law enforcement agencies nationwide.
Following his meeting with the President, who had earlier signed the Start-Up Bill into law, Pantami revealed this to State House reporters.
Young Nigerians have reportedly been hounded and imprisoned by law authorities because they thought they were internet fraudsters when they saw a laptop in their possession.
This, among other factors, eventually led to the EndSARS protests of October 2020.
According to Pantami, incidences of harassment should receive a quicker reaction. An executive arm-initiated measure, the Start-Up law was passed on July 20, 2022, and it aims to establish a supportive environment for tech-based start-ups in Nigeria.
The regulation, according to Pantami, has significant economic advantages and will make it easier for young start-ups to recognize and articulate their business issues.
