The statement was made on Monday in Oniru, Lagos by Isa Pantami, minister of communications and digital economy.
Pantami said that the largest nation in Africa shouldn't be importing goods that could be made domestically.
"Let me be very clear: The importation of SIM cards is no longer acceptable to the federal government. They are currently being made in Nigeria.
The minister stated, "Our goal is to increase indigenous content in the ICT sector so that by 2025, we will be at least 80% self-reliant."
Pantami pleaded with stakeholders and individuals to back government initiatives to increase local purchasing and patronage.
The professor of cybersecurity continued, "History will be kind to all of us if we accomplish this.
Pantami announced in June that a SIM card manufacturing facility had been created in Lagos by the Buhari administration.
The plant, which was constructed with assistance from the business sector, has the ability to export 200 million cards per year to other African nations.
