An improved version of one of the best VPNs is now available: NordVPN. All of its apps, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and smart TV platforms, now support post-quantum encryption (PQE). This follows last year's rollout on Linux, which was used as a testbed for the feature. However, there is a catch: PQE is only functional when connected via NordLynx, the company's speed-optimised protocol built on WireGuard.
This is significant because traditional encryption may eventually be cracked by quantum computers, so VPN providers should start planning ahead. According to the CTO of NordVPN, the goal of this new function is to increase user data's long-term durability. While the extra encryption is undetectable to consumers, it could play a key role in future-proofing online privacy due to its unique mathematical procedures designed to be too hard for quantum computers to break. PQE can now be accessed via a toggle in the settings of the app.
